What would a day of hiking be without stopping in at a mountain hut along the way? After so much fresh mountain air, all kinds of new impressions and the joy of conquering a summit, well-earned refreshments are a must on the way back down. In the area of the Maiskogel, there are all kinds of cafes, inns and traditional huts, each of which looks forward to treating you to a selection of delectable local and regional dishes.
Avid mountaineers have long known that a "Pinzgauer Brettljause" is hard to beat: a hearty snack including bacon, local cheese specialties and spreads, along with a mug of beer, enjoyed on a sunny terrace while looking out at our glorious mountain world.
And of course, "sweet-tooths" won't be neglected in the slightest either. All of our local eateries pamper you with traditional desserts including Kaiserschmarrn, pancakes and homemade cakes. And in the hottest summer months, nothing goes down better than a sundae topped with a scoop or two of wonderfully cool ice cream.
Alpengasthaus Glocknerblick stands in one of the most beautiful and most scenic locations on the Maiskogel in Kaprun. At this rustic hut with magnificent views extending from the Watzmann to the Grossglockner, allow yourself to be treated to original Austrian cooking!
In summer, you can reach the Glocknerblick either via the Alexander-Enziger Höhenweg, Maiskogel hiking path No. 35 or the Jetzbachastensteig. From May to mid-October, you can also get here by riding the hiking bus, which stops hourly at the mountain terminal of the former Maiskogel gondola lift. From there, it is just 20 minutes on foot to the Glocknerblick.
The Alpengasthaus is also an ideal destination for mountain bikers. For your ride up, we recommend taking forestry lane 11D (no taxi or truck traffic). Downhill fans will love the Bachler Trail for their ride back to the valley.

Stangerbauer snack bar, located at 1,100 m above sea level, captivates on the one hand with its absolute tranquility, interrupted only occasionally by the jangle of cowbells, as well its selection of mouthwatering dishes.
They place an emphasis on using ingredients they have produced themselves. Whether home-baked cake or a filet steak from a cow raised on their own farm, the variety-packed menu caters to your every wish. Don’t just take our word for it. Come see for yourself!
Aside from its beautiful location above the rooftops of Kaprun, the Unteraigen snack bar also treats its guests to outstanding regional cooking. Especially popular: hearty knuckle of pork and veal, delicious spare ribs as well as original Pinzgauer Blatt’ln, prepared fresh by advance order. Likewise highly recommended: a typical Pinzgau-style Brettljause (a platter of homemade or regional organic products including bacon, sausage, cheese and a shot of schnapps).
All fans of fine spirits will definitely be delighted by the schnapps produced here in their own distillery. Since 1995, the Unteraigen has been distilling an apple cuvée along with gentian, raspberry, red currant, rowanberry, Williams pear and plum schnapps.

The Maisi-Alm is an ideal meeting place for guests looking for a true culinary treat. Since this café is located right inside the family amusement park and is the starting point for many different hikes and walks, it is also an ideal opportunity to enjoy refreshments and a bite to eat.
With a variety of delicious choices including schnitzel, steak and a selection of pasta dishes, as well as desserts that include Kaiserschmarrn-style pancakes and home-baked cakes, the Maisi-Alm is a great option for a snack break during the afternoon or as a reward after an extended hike. Littler guests aren’t neglected either. Special dishes have been created especially for them with a taste that is certain to appeal to their young taste buds.
All of the dishes are made primarily from local ingredients and prepared to preserve their natural goodness and nutrition.
The Maiskogel Alm Ranch lies at 1,545 m above sea level and is the destination for countless hikes. Hungry and thirsty mountain fans, along with sun worshippers, all find what they are looking for here at the Alm Ranch. Hot and cold dishes are served throughout the day, treating guests to culinary highlights that include steak, burgers and sandwiches prepared over a lava-rock grill, chicken and knuckle from the rotisserie, as well as wiener schnitzel.
Sweet-tooths aren’t neglected at the Maiskogel Alm Ranch either: cheese- and apple strudel, poppy-seed dumplings and original Austrian Kaiserschmarrn pancakes please the palate, both as a main course or dessert. All of these delicious foods can be enjoyed out on the spacious sun-terrace, from where you can take in the magnificent views of the Zell valley basin, flanked by an alpine world that extends from the Steinernes Meer range to the Hohe Tauern mountains.
An added highlight is the petting zoo, where sheep, hens, a donkey and goats eagerly await an extra dose of loving attention.
This mountain hut has been owned by the Dürlinger family since around 1830. Its 214 hectares of high pastures are still actively used for hill farming and grazing during the summer months.
A visit to the Unterbergalm is especially recommended for families with children and prams. The hut can easily be reached from the mountain station of the Maiskogel gondola lift in just a 30-minute walk along a flat forestry lane. Once at the hut, you will be able to enjoy the magnificent mountain views as you sip on a glass of fresh alpine milk or a mug of homemade elderberry juice.
For your return trip, we recommend taking along a treat or two from the various products that are produced right there at the hut.
