Skiing in summer? Maiskogel Family Mountain makes it possible.
If you don't want to go snow-skiing on the Kitzsteinhorn during the summer months, Kaprun is actually one of the first places in Salzburger Land where you have the opportunity to try your hand at grass skiing.
In the same place where alpine skiers slice through the snow in wintertime, in summer it's the grass skiers whom you'll see "carving" down the green hillsides. The starting point is on the Schaufelberg. If you park your car at the valley station, a shuttle service will bring you to the top.
Taking those first "baby steps"
As we all know, the first step is often also the hardest. But that's why the cool grass-ski instructors from "Bewegt – die Skischule" will be right there at your side to assist with some great tips and their own expertise. Those of you who are already experienced on alpine skis or inline skates will be able to get going right away - whereas rookies will probably need about an hour until they, too, are able to begin negotiating the green alpine hillsides.
Actually, even pro athletes like to take advantage of this summer sport as an added training opportunity. Though we have to say, here on the Maiskogel the focus is squarely on having fun trying out something new.
To get you started, the ski school will supply you with all the equipment you need:
- skis that are about 85 cm long and don't look much like the alpine skis you are used to seeing
- ski boots, poles, helmets
- elbow- and knee guards
Please note that long pants are mandatory if you wish to participate in this sport.
